Referral rules

4-minute read A summary at the top of every section

Draft. To be written and reviewed by a lawyer before going live.

In short Share your link. When your friend runs their first Leg Up campaign and their proof is validated, you earn the reward of the current offer.

In short One link per runner, always valid.

  • Every registered runner has a personal link in the "Referral" section of their space. It does not contain your name.
  • The person who opens your link sees that you invited them. Your code is kept for 30 days in their browser, then offered when they create their runner account. They can also type it in.
  • The referral is set at sign-up and never changes: an existing account cannot be referred afterwards.
  • No self-referral: your own code is refused, even with a variant of your email address.

2. When the reward is due

In short On your friend's first campaign with a validated proof, under the offer in force on the day they signed up.

  • The Leg Up team sets the referral offer: the reward amount, its dates, sometimes a specific race. It is shown in your space and on the site while it is in force.
  • The reward is due when your friend has their first campaign with a proof validated by the brand (including finisher, if the brand requires it), within 12 months of signing up. If the offer targets a race, only a campaign on that race counts.
  • What counts is the offer in force on the day your friend signed up, even if it has ended since. With no offer that day, your friend is still linked to you, but no reward is due.
  • Some offers also include a welcome reward for the friend, paid at the same time.
  • An offer may set a cap on rewards per referrer per calendar year (10 by default) and a total budget: once the budget is reached, the offer ends.

3. Payment

In short Like campaign pay, to your payout account.

  • The reward is paid by Leg Up, out of its commission: it changes neither what the brand pays nor what your friend earns.
  • It is paid to your payout account (Stripe), with a "Referral reward" line in "My earnings". Without a payout account, it waits for you until you add one.
  • It is paid 7 days after it is earned: time for Leg Up to check that it is not self-referral.
  • Like your other earnings, the reward is income: it is up to you to declare it if your situation requires.

4. When there is no reward

In short No reward without a real race, or in case of cheating.

  • No reward if your friend does not run, withdraws, or if their proof is finally refused.
  • No reward if you or your friend are suspended by Leg Up when it is computed.
  • No reward if you share the same payout account, the same bank account or the same postal address (including the one either of you had when committing to a campaign), if the yearly cap is reached or if the offer's budget is spent. This check is run again just before the payment.
  • Leg Up may refuse a reward in case of fraud, with a reason. You are told, and you can contest it from the "Leg Up" section of your space.

5. Changes

In short The offer may change for the future, never for rewards already earned.

  • Leg Up may change or stop the referral offer at any time, for future sign-ups. Rewards already due remain due.
  • Referral is neither a lottery nor a prize draw, and the reward is never paid in vouchers.
  • What your referrer sees: your first name, the initial of your last name and where you are (signed up, committed, reward earned or refused). Nothing else. See the privacy policy.
